Google’s Android has taken over Windows to become the new most used operating system on the internet.
According to StatCounter, Android overall internet usage is more than Windows for the first time ever last March, Android claimed 37.93 per cent market share with Window on 37.91 per cent in March valuation. Whereas Apple’s iOS operating system was third most popular at 13.09 per cent.
StatCounter collected data from a sample “exceeding 15 billion page views per month [and] more than three million websites.”
Android taken over Windows by 0.02 percent to become the most popular operating system by the Internet users.
Aodhan Cullen, CEO of StatCounter,”This is a milestone in technology history and the end of an era”.
Asia Topped The List In Android Usage:
StatCounter report also showed that Window is still holding 39.5% of market share in North America in March followed by iOS 25.7% and Android 21.2%.
Moreover, Europe has the twice level of Window usage up to 51.7%. However, in Asia, Android has 52.2% of market share compared to 29.2% for Windows.
StatCounter only measures internet-connected devices, which will exclude a number of desktop PCs. In fact, Microsoft’s Window still dominates the desktop market share by 84 percent market share.
A Microsoft spokesperson declined to comment on Android taking over Windows but added,”We are pleased that there are more than 400 million monthly active devices running Windows 10, and most importantly, that Windows 10 has the highest levels of product satisfaction over any previous version of Windows.”
“Windows won the desktop war, but the battlefield moved on,” Cullen noted. “It will be difficult for Microsoft to make inroads in mobile, but the next paradigm shift might give it the opportunity to regain dominance. That could be in Augmented Reality, AI, Voice or Continuum.”
Aodhan Cullen also said,” this is the major breakthrough to not only in the growth of smartphone device globally, which give more people access to the internet, but also give a clear view in decline of the sale of traditional PCs.
StatCounter report issued last week vast majority of internet usage in countries like India (79 percent), Indonesia (72 percent) and China (57 percent), while desktop remains king in markets such as the U.S. (37 percent), U.K. (35 percent) and Germany (30 percent).
